In a recent probe by European Union regulators, Apple Pay was found not to be abusing competition laws, but the digital payment service could be subject to additional scrutiny if authorities receive formal complaints, according to a report by Reuters.

EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager told Reuters in an interview that Apple Pay could face a second investigation if further complaints are made. Critics have alleged that iPhones automatically select Apple Pay due to the embedded NFC chip in the device, according to the report.

The regulator also warned that Google and Amazon could face further scrutiny over competition issues.
