Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) launched an awareness campaign (know its value) to introduce new categories of the sixth issue coins and to raise awareness among the public regarding coins value in all of its categories. The campaign urges to use it daily and not to neglect taking the remaining smaller coins. SAMA stated that the campaign messages are being broadcasted through all forms of mass-media including TV, Radio, print and online newspaper; in addition to the new media, advertising screens on main roads throughout the kingdom, print distribution, roving exhibitions in schools and shopping malls. SAMA is keen to diversify means used to broadcast the campaign in order to reach the largest numbers of cash traders and beneficiaries. ‘Know its value’ campaign comes within SAMA’s efforts to boost financial awareness confidence among cash traders in general and coins in particular. The campaign attempts to consolidate coins trading culture, encourage use of coins and promote saving culture among children.
SAMA asserted that it is decided to replace the one-riyal note with the one-riyal coin. Yet it is planned to keep dealing with riyal note until it is withdrawn gradually according to a prefixed time-plan. SAMA asserted that all sixth issues of the new coins are available currently in all of SAMA and banks branches throughout the kingdom. Finally, in case it is difficult to obtain the new coins, a complaint can be filed to consumer protection department via (samacare.sa) or toll number 8001256666.
