SIOUX FALLS, SD, USA – Following up publication in April 2018 of a high-level infographic on IADs in the Americas, the ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) has announced completion of a more detailed analysis of the market environment for Independent ATM Deployers (“IADs”) operating in the United States.
The proprietary analysis is based on data compiled from extensive research and consultation with ATM operators, processors and other experts in the United States and other markets. It is the first in an ongoing series of studies that will analyze the environment for IADs in key markets worldwide.
“This analysis looks at both the macroeconomic factors that impact cash usage in the U.S. and the market forces that specifically affect IADs,” commented Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA. “It paints a picture of an open and robustly competitive IAD market with exciting business opportunities for innovative and resourceful participants.”
The analysis addresses many topics including IAD market share, the role of IAD ATMs as a core consumer banking touchpoint, their role in financial inclusion, and the variety of operating models used among IADs in the market (including the growing business of bank outsourcing).
“The US is the world’s most successful IAD market, measured by the scale and diversity of their activity,” said Leland Englebardt, Practice Leader of Financial Services at Upshot Advisors, who edited the study. “The study shows that despite the emergence of mobile cash apps, contactless payments and e-wallets, ATMs remain an essential part of retail commerce and consumers’ payment preferences.”
“The IAD business in the United States is a sterling example of how our industry has built a convenient, reliable, diverse, and secure self-service banking channel that’s vital to tens of millions of people,” Lee said. “The study addresses past development, today’s market conditions, and the most important opportunities and challenges that confront us as we move forward. The study provides valuable information for anyone seeking to grow their ATM business in the U.S.”
